be unfortunate if anything inter-

fered to prevent the relations

between the British Head of the

Customs Administration and the

British authorities in the Far East

being placed upon a footing of

mutual confidence and support.

despatch, I enclose for your own

personal information a copy of a

confidential memorandum by Mr.Maze

which has been communicated to the

F.0. and in which the present

position is clearly explained. This
